Pertamina is a major contributor to national oil and gas production. However, the majority of its oil production comes from old oil wells that are more than 30 years old. One of them is an oil well in the Rantau area and its surroundings, which is included in Aceh Tamiang Regency.
Despredi Akbar, Field Manager of Rantau Field, said that the Rantau area has a sweet story when it comes to oil. Rantau was one of the first areas to produce oil in the country, just like Pangkalan Susu and other areas in Sumatra. According to him, in the 1980s oil production in Rantau was even recorded to have reached 30 thousand barrels per day (BPH).
